EMERGENCY services have been rushed to Troon railway station as a fire broke out this afternoon.

It is understood that the blaze broke out shortly before 1pm this afternoon as three fire engines remain at the scene.

Images from the station, a listed building, show smoke coming from the station but there are not believed to be any injuries.

Travellers have been warned to expect disruption to services as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed firefighters are dealing with the incident.

Network Rail Scotland confirmed they are assisting SFRS with the incident but said that "trains are currently unable to pass through the area".

Trains through the station have been cancelled for the time being with ScotRail tweeting: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Troon area. Consequently, trains through the station will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"We’ll update you once we have more information."

They later updated that alternative routes are:

  • Glasgow Central - Ardrossan Harbour & Largs services for stations to Kilwinning
  • Glasgow Central - Gourock & Wemyss Bay for Paisley Gilmour Street

They have also requested two buses at Kilwinning to be used "as required" but do not yet have times for when these will be in place. They added that ScotRail tickets will be accepted on Stagecoach bus services.

Alternatively, travellers can use the following bus services, noting that ScotRail ticket acceptance is not currently in place.

  • X77 - Ayr to Glasgow
  • 14 - Ayr to Troon and Irvine
  • 585 - Irvine to Ayr
  • 10 - Troon to Kilmarnock
