Lotus: A New Dawn (C4, 5.45pm)
LOTUS, based in the village of Hethel in Norfolk, is one of the most famous British automotive companies around, due in no small part to the success of its motorsport team, which won the Formula One World Championship seven times.
Well known for producing sports cars for civilian drivers, it was founded in 1952 by engineers Colin Chapman and Colin Dare, who sold kit cars to private racers. However, arguably the company’s most notable marque is the non-kit Lotus Elan, which was so stylish, even Emma Peel from The Avengers drove one.
Sadly, in recent years, the firm has struggled to maintain a profit, but this documentary charts the efforts of its latest managing director to boost Lotus’s income by launching its first new road car in more than a decade.
Rolling in It (STV, 7pm)
THE first run of the game show, which involves a giant arcade-style machine, proved such a success with viewers last year that a second series was quickly commissioned.
It got under way last week, with Sarah Millican, Oti Mabuse and Martin Kemp trying to help – but more than likely hindering – the contestants as they attempted to win a cash prize.
Expect more of the same tonight, except with actor and singer Martine McCutcheon, comedian and musical theatre star Jason Manford and TV presenter AJ Odudu taking part. Stephen Mulhern hosts.
A Lake District Farm Shop (C4, 8pm)
HAS somebody at Channel 4 been watching Channel 5 lately and been inspired by the success of its Yorkshire-based series? It makes you wonder when a show such as this pops up in the schedule.
OK, so it’s based in the Lakes rather than on the Moors, Dales or Wolds, but it wouldn’t look out of place alongside The Yorkshire Vet or Our Yorkshire Farm. This week a group of schoolchildren learn the traditional method of making Cumberland sausages from a master butcher, a young entrepreneur tries to make their mark and the head lifestyle buyer visits a ceramicist who has been supplying the shop for 20 years.
Carole King: Welcome to My Living Room (Sky Arts, 9pm)
FILMED in Southern California in 2005, this film features an intimate, unadorned glimpse into King’s sold-out Living Room World Tour, which showcases 21 Top 40 hits from one of the greatest singer-songwriters in history.
Among the tracks are Where You Lead I Will Follow, Say Goodbye Today, Nobody Wants to Be Lonely, Love’s Been A Little Bit Hard On Me, (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and So Far Away. King also tells stories about how she got started in the music business, alongside guests including Gary Burr and Rudy Guess.
