CARERS from the Wee County – Clackmannanshire – and Stirling branch of one of Scotland’s biggest care at home companies, Cera Care, have won multiple prizes at the Scottish Care annual awards.

Alexis Comrie, a 57-year-old care worker from Sauchie, won Carer of the Year award, while colleagues Leanne Carroll, 33, from Tullibody, Janna Blair, 27, from Alva, and 49-year-old Sharon Ross, also from Alva, won Care Co-ordinators of the year, for which Jordanne Little, 28, from Clackmannan, was a finalist.

Scottish Care chief executive Dr Donald Macaskill, and celebrity Michelle McManus hosted the awards.

A delighted Comrie said: “Every day is an adventure in my job. Putting a smile on someone’s face that you visit on a regular basis just makes my day.

“I enjoy a song and a wee dance with several of the people I care for which brings a light into their lives as well as mine.” She said she usually walks to the service users she cares for every day, and sometimes uses her bike. “I never missed a shift during Covid. We all had to help each other. It was a very challenging time, with some of our own staff having to isolate because of any health issues they had. So a very busy time for everyone.”

Cera is a multi-award winning tech-enabled home care provider regulated by the Care Inspectorate in Scotland and Wales, and the Care Quality Commission in England.

Each of their home care services is designed to make it possible for users to stay where they most want to be – at home.

Comrie’s manager, Susan McCormack, added: “We are honoured and immensely proud to have winners from our Clackmannanshire Services at this year’s award celebration.

“It endorses the good work we do on a daily basis to care for people in their own homes, and enable them to live as independently as they possibly can.

“Our care workers regularly go above and beyond and again I am so proud their fantastic work has been recognised via these national awards.

“Alexis continues to have great determination and drive to keep making a difference to people's lives and I believe that she is very worthy of this recognition award. We are all immensely proud of Alexis and her achievement.”
