The National:

BBC political correspondent Ben Wright has provided Twitter users with some entertainment after he was caught on camera struggling to pronounce Gina Coladangelo’s name yesterday.

Wright was explaining that The Sun newspaper has published security pictures that allegedly show Matt Hancock in an embrace with lobbyist Coladangelo when he started stumbling over his words.

“Coladange… Code…Co… Coladange…jaje – sorry, I beg your pardon – Gina Coladag… age… jen… jenlo,” the reporter said, failing until the end to say the name in full.

A tweet about his pronunciation had 10,000 likes at the time of writing.

Some people found the video hilarious while others questioned why British media struggles with foreign names.

Florence Batt said: "Typical xenophobic UK media who can’t get their tongues around forrin names or even bother trying."

Another said: "This isn’t funny. This isn’t ‘quirky’ and it isn’t okay. It’s lazy, it’s rude and it’s showing disregard and indifference to someone’s name and identity. I don’t care who someone is, LEARN HOW TO SAY THEIR NAME."
