YOU'VE heard of Boaty McBoatface and Sir Andy Flurry, now one Scottish council has followed in the tracks of "famous" ships and gritters by naming its bin lorries.

The vehicles, Dumfries and Galloway Council says, now have "a touch of celebrity status" thanks to the area's school children.

They took part in a competition to name the municipal motors — and they did not disappoint. Get a load of these monikers.

Dustbin Bieber, Bin Diesel and Greta Binberg will now travel the region's roads scooping up refuse along with The Binions, Ter-Bin-Nator and Lord Recyclemort.

The 24-strong fleet also includes Trash Gordon and Binny McBinface.

The names were suggested by primary pupils and those from first year in high school.

The waste collection fleet, which covers over 500,000 miles per year, will now do its rounds with the quirky new names emblazoned across its vehicles.

Councillor Andy Ferguson commented: "There were so many fantastic and very funny suggestions and the judges really struggled to choose the winners."

Councillor John Martin added: "It’s great to see so many young people getting involved in this competition as kerbside recycling is rolled-out across Dumfries and Galloway. We’re delighted with the initial success of the new service and we encourage local residents to continue their efforts in recycling their waste as our newly-christened collection lorries visit their communities."
