THE First Minister has shared a video of herself standing for the national anthem of Scotland ahead of the men's team's Euro 2020 match against the Czech Republic.

The Scottish men's team has not played a match at a major international competition since the 1998 World Cup in France.

Nicola Sturgeon was filmed watching the historic moment where the Flower of Scotland was played at Hampden Park in Glasgow ahead of today's game.

Sharing the video to social media, Sturgeon acknowledged the long wait Scotland had faced to see its men's team play in such a tournament.

She said the moment had been "23 years in the making".

Earlier this morning, Sturgeon sent her well wishes to the team, telling them they’ve made the nation proud already.

"After 23 long years, the big moment has arrived, our men's team back where they belong on the big stage,” she said in a clip.

"To Steve Clarke and the whole team, thanks for getting us here, you've done us proud already but the very, very best of luck for every kick of the ball.

"The whole country is behind you. We'll be cheering you on every step of the way.”
