FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon has wished the Scotland team luck ahead of their match against the Czech Republic.

The Scottish men's National Team is set to play at Hampden in Glasgow at 2pm, and the First Minister released a short video message to show her support.

As well as wishing for "lots and lots of goals" from the Scotland side, Sturgeon urged fans to stay safe and remember Covid precautions and restrictions.

Sturgeon, who said she will be watching the match, said that Steve Clarke and the team have already made Scotland "proud already".

Standing in front of two saltire flags in a pale blue suit, the First Minister said she hopes every fan enjoys the match.

She said: "After 23 long years, the big moment has arrived, our men's team back where they belong on the big stage.

"To Steve Clarke and the whole team, thanks for getting us here, you've done us proud already but the very, very best of luck for every kick of the ball.

"The whole country is behind young. We'll be cheering you on every step of the way.

"Every single Scotland fan has waited such a long time for this moment. Every fan deserves to enjoy this and I hope everybody does enjoy it.

"I'll be watching along with everybody else, But I'm the one that's got to say it, of course we are still in the Covid pandemic so as you enjoy, we hope, lots and lots of Scotland goals, please try and do it safely, for your own sake but for those you love as well.

"Come on Scotland."

Scotland, who last qualified for a major tournament in 1998, secured their spot in Euro 2020 thanks to penalty heroics against Serbia in Belgrade last November.

A total of 12,000 lucky fans will be allowed inside the ground at Hampden to watch the match. It has been reduced to 25% capacity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
