A MAN who hounded his local MP could be facing jail.
Jonathan Bell harassed SNP politician Carol Monaghan between January and April 2019.
Prosecutors stated the 35 year-old led the Glasgow North West MP to believe she was at risk of serious harm. This included him contacting Crimestoppers that her "life was in danger".
He also smeared tomato sauce on the door and window of Monaghan's constituency office in the city's Partick. The ketchup was initially feared to have been blood.
Bell also posted photos of this on social media alongside an offensive comment. He tweeted the MP at one stage: “Why are people saying your life is in danger, Carol?”
Bell also stated in reference to Brexit: “SNP MP is going against democracy.”
He then left a concerning voicemail message on Monaghan’s office phone.
Bell - who lives in nearby Broomhill - was due to go on trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
He instead pleaded guilty on the eve of the MP giving evidence to a charge of engaging in a course of conduct which caused her fear or alarm. Further information on the case is expected to be heard at a hearing next month.
Sheriff Martin Jones QC continued bail and adjourned sentencing for reports until next month.
Monaghan was last month on the Westminster committee who quizzed ex-Downing Street adviser Dominic Cummings on the UK Government's handling of the Covid crisis.
