SCOTLAND has recorded more than 1000 new Covid cases for the first time since the middle of February.

Over the past 24 hours 1011 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Scotland, the highest since the 1121 of February 17.

During the peak of the second wave after the Christmas period, around 2500 cases were being recorded a day.

Today's figure of 1011 represents a positivity test rate of 3.0%, as 36,227 new tests for Covid-19 have reported results over the past 24 hours. 

This is still below the WHO threshold of 5.0% which indicates whether the virus is currently considered to be under control.

There has also been one further death recorded. This brings the total number of deaths in Scotland under this measure - of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive - to 7678.

Across Scotland yesterday there were 121 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19. Of these, 14 were in intensive care.

In terms of the vaccine roll-out, 3,422,431 people in Scotland have received the first dose of the Covid jag. A total of 2,313,695 people have also received their second dose.

The latest Government data shows that cases have spiked in Clackmannanshire and Dundee City. Both areas now have seven-day case rates per 100,000 of the population of more than 200.

Clackmannanshire is Scotland's Covid "hotspot", with a rate of 215.4, while Dundee City has a seven-day rate of 214.3.
