SCOTLAND has recorded 641 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the latest Scottish Government figures show.

This figure represents 4.2% of the 16,192 tests which reported results in the last day.

The Scottish Government data also shows that no further deaths of coronavirus patients have been recorded.

That means that the official number of deaths under this figure, of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive for the virus, remain at 7677.

Across Scotland's hospitals, there were yesterday 122 being treated for recently confirmed Covid-19.

Of these people, 12 were in intensive care.

In terms of the vaccine roll-out, 3,386,321 people in Scotland have received the first dose of the jag.

The figures show that 2,251,259 have also received their second dose.

The news comes as the City of Edinburgh, as well as three other Scottish areas, overtake Glasgow to become the new Covid "hotspot".

Government data shows that Glasgow's seven-day case rate per 100,000 of the population is currently 156.4. Edinburgh has overtaken this in recent days, and now has a seven-day rate of 166.7 per 100,000.

Clackmannanshire, Dundee City, and South Ayrshire are the three Scottish areas with the highest case rate right now, on 190.1, 186.8, and 178.5 per 100,000 respectively.
