The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies (C5, 7pm)

ALAN Davies returns, and he’s once again following the work of the RSPCA inspectors, emergency services, vets and nurses who have dedicated themselves to keeping Britain’s dogs safe. In the process, he’ll uncover stories of daring canine rescues, as well as tales that will bring a tear to many pet lovers’ eyes. But while the QI regular is keen to give credit to the professionals, he’ll also be getting his own hands dirty as he visits two of the UK’s busiest hospitals to act as an honorary vet assistant.

IT’S the final week of the seasonal nature programme – but which birds are ready to leave their nests? Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan bring viewers the latest live updates from Wild Ken Hill in Norfolk. Meanwhile, Gillian Burke investigates some clever cuttlefish in Down, Northern Ireland, and Iolo Williams tracks down mountain hares at Alladale Wilderness Reserve in the Highlands. Plus, sea slugs make a colourful appearance and there’s a report on spring sounds ringing around Sherwood Forest.

Bake Off: The Professionals (C4, 8pm)

IT’S chocolate week, which may sound like fun to viewers, but it’s going to be very tough for the remaining pastry chefs battling it out to prove they are Britain’s best patisserie team. Hosts Liam Charles and Tom Allen reveal the first secret challenge, which involves both chocolate and one of judge Benoit Blin’s favourite ingredients. Then, the teams must construct a robot-themed, technically precise showpiece with 48 chocolate bon bons and a moving part.

AS lockdown begins to ease, it seems we may get a clearer picture of the toll the pandemic has taken on the nation’s mental health. The latest episode of this eye-opening documentary reveals that the emergency department at University Hospital Coventry has experienced a 30% increase in patients presenting with mental health concerns. Consultant Ed Hartley deals with a woman who was brought in after

self-harming, but with 14 other patients also being treated for mental health needs that day, he is limited in how much he can do.
