NATIONAL readers were asked for suggestions on what Ruth Davidson’s House of Lords title should be, after it emerged a decision is yet to be made.
The former Scottish Tory leader was given a peerage by Boris Johnson last year, and later said she would not enter the House until she had finished her term at Holyrood.
It is nearly a month on from the election and Davidson has still not taken her seat. The National revealed this week it is because she has not agreed with the member of the royal household responsibility for titles on what she will be called.
Under the Lords process, nominees must agree the title with the royal household member known as the Garter King of Arms – this tradition dates back to the 15th century.

SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson said the situation was yet another example of the issues with the Lords.
He said: “If Baroness Davidson can’t take her seat until she agrees what fancy-Dan title she’ll have, it is yet another reason why the unelected Lords need scrapped.”
We selected some of the title suggestions from our social media pages, and you can vote on your favourite below.
Baroness Tank Commander (inspired by famous picture of Ruth on a tank complete with Union flag – submitted by Elizabeth Rimmer)
Baroness Bottledit (submitted by Kathleen Long, in honour of Davidson deciding to leave democratic politics for the unelected Lords)
Baroness Hurricane (submitted by Mark Spicer, who said it was ‘because she changes her mind more times than the weather’)
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
