FAR-right activist Jayda Fransen, who was sent packing by Scots at last month's Holyrood election, is standing for Westminster in the murdered MP Jo Cox's constituency.

Fransen, the former deputy leader of "Britain First" - the words shouted by the man who killed Cox - will contest July 1's by-election in Batley and Spen against the late MP's sister Kim Leadbitter.

The Labour politician was shot and stabbed to death by right-wing extremist Thomas Mair in June 2016 just ahead of the EU referendum.

Mair's trial was told he shouted: "Britain first, this is for Britain, Britain will always come first" as he launched his fatal assault.

Fransen's bid, for the British Freedom Party, comes only weeks after she got just 46 votes standing against First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in Glasgow Southside.

Ahead of last month's election, Sturgeon called Fransen, who is banned from Twitter, a "racist" and a "fascist".

Fransen tried to confront the First Minister while she visited a polling station in her constituency on May 6.

Sturgeon told her: "We'll see the locals view later on. You're a racist. You're a fascist, a racist and the Southside of Glasgow will reject you."

Humiliated Fransen failed to show up at the count and left Scotland.

Around a decade ago Fransen was involved with the English Defence League, a far-right, Islamophobic group.

She then joined the far-right political organisation Britain First, serving as deputy leader under Paul Golding between 2014 and 2019.

In March 2018, she was sentenced to 36 weeks imprisonment after being convicted of three counts of religiously aggravated harassment.

Labour's Leadbitter is defending a majority of 3525 over the Conservatives from the 2019 General Election.

Cox was on her way to a meeting with voters at a library when she was murdered.

The new vote was triggered by incumbent MP Tracy Brabin being elected as the first mayor of West Yorkshire.

Fransen said in an email: "Jayda Fransen is standing for the forgotten people of British, Christian, Batley and Spen! For God and Britannia."
