THE national campaigning organisation Voices for Scotland today issues an appeal via The National for volunteers to join its ranks in the run up to the next independence referendum.
Set up by the Scottish Independence Convention, Voices for Scotland is a non-party political group which aims to encourage people across Scotland to take forward the cause of indy.
They told The National: “Voices for Scotland is looking for more people to get involved in our campaign and be part of the movement to create a Scotland for everyone.
“The organisation was set up in 2019 to act as a platform for the voices of those who want to see a fairer, more equal, greener, wealthier and happier Scotland and have ideas or something to say about how we get there. We are currently looking for blog writers, social media experts, podcasters, people enthusiastic about hosting events, visual content creators … anyone who shares our positive vision for Scotland and who can mirror that positivity in words and images.
“Our goal is to bring people together to share meaningful, respectful and inclusive conversations about a Scotland for everyone and build support for independence.
“We believe that for us to gain self-determination, we need to ensure that a positive case for independence is a consistent part of everyday conversations between friends, family and colleagues encouraged through national campaigns.”
Voice for Scotland is clear about its raison d’etre and strategy: “We speak without party-politics, Yes/No labelling and judgement of those who are not pro-independence.
“We need a different method of campaigning where instead of hearing the same voices arguing the same points we’ve heard a million times before, we want to hear from you, your family, your community on the issues that affect you.
“You don’t need to be an expert on macroeconomics, EFTA, the CAP, the CFP … etc – but if you are, great! What’s really important about Scotland’s future is what’s important to you and Voices for Scotland is providing the platform and space to have your voice heard.
“As the dust has begun to settle from the Holyrood election, we can be more hopeful about the end of the pandemic and we have a rough idea of when a referendum might be, it is so important that we establish a platform where people can speak about what matters to them in a respectful and meaningful way.
“Your participation with Voices for Scotland is at the beginning of a new phase and a new way of campaigning that gives people a voice and allows them to connect and share their stories.”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
