As The National’s history writer Hamish MacPherson always says, you can never know enough about Scotland and its history, geography and culture.

Next week Yessers will get the chance to test your knowledge of Scotland courtesy of one of the most active pro-independence groups around, Yes Southside. You can expect to be fully tested on many aspects of Scotland and Scottish life, and there will be prizes.

It’s on Zoom on Friday, June 4, with a prompt start at 7.30pm. It costs £5 to enter via Eventbrite and all the profits will go to the campaign when the next independence referendum comes around. You will have to download the Kahoot app to take part but that’s pretty easy to do.

Yes Southside said: “Join us for an excellent Scottish-themed quiz night on Friday June 4. This is your chance to test your knowledge of Scotland whilst competing to win our top prize. All funds raised will be used in the upcoming independence referendum. Tickets can be booked via Eventbrite.”

Hamish won’t be setting the questions but if he was he’d be asking questions like these to get you thinking:

1. In what year did the Battle of Flodden take place?

2. Who was Mary Queen of Scots’ second husband?

3. Which archipelago features the Westray isles?

4. Who is the current manager of the Scotland men’s national football team?

5. In which city is Yes Southside based?
