TWO more people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

A further 318 cases were also recorded over the past 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 2%.

The deaths, among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measurement to 7666.

Some 87 people are in hospital with confirmed Covid-19, an increase of three in 24 hours.

Of those, six are in intensive care, a rise of one.

Of the new cases, 149 were in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 54 were in Lothian, and 34 were in Lanarkshire.

Speaking at the Scottish Government’s coronavirus briefing, the First Minister said: "As always, I want to convey my condolences to everyone who has lost someone as a result of Covid."

In total, 3,138,366 people across Scotland have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine, an increase of 16,421 in 24 hours.

A further 1,881,214 people have received a second dose, up by 29,035.
