SCOTLAND has recorded 414 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, according to the latest government data.

The latest Scottish figures show a slight fall of 18 cases on yesterday's figure but the percentage of positive cases was slightly higher at 1.9%.

No further deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days, meaning the toll under that measurement remains 7664.

Some 81 people were in hospital yesterday with confirmed Covid-19, a fall of two from the previous day.

Of those patients, four were in intensive care, a decrease of one.

A total of 3,082,251 people have now received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 1,769,040 have received their second dose.

READ MORE: Glasgow to stay in level 3 as Moray moves to level 2, Nicola Sturgeon announces

The latest figures come as Nicola Sturgeon announced that Glasgow will remain in Level 3 restrictions for another week.

The First Minister made the announcement as the number of cases in the city has risen to 112 per 100,000 people of the population. She said the outbreak in the city is being driven by the so-called Indian variant of the virus, which she referred to as the April-02 variant.

Moray, which also remained in level 3 last week due to an outbreak of cases in the area, is to join the rest of mainland Scotland in level 2 from midnight tonight.

Sturgeon also referenced the East Renfrewshire area where the number of cases per 100,000 is actually slightly higher than in Glasgow but said due to a smaller population and identifiable "household clusters", the area will stay in level 2. However, this will be kept under "close review".
