THE National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCOS) celebrated yesterday’s further easing of restrictions by gathering together outside to sing for the first time since last March.

At 6am, 29 singers and conductor Christopher Bell gathered on Calton Hill to serenade dog walkers and early birds as the sun rose over Edinburgh.

Mollie Quigley, who took part, said: “We are all excited to be back singing. A lot of us have sung together for 10 years and it is good to hear everyone finally back together.

“On Zoom it doesn’t feel like you’re singing together, it feels isolated. This morning has been wonderful hearing everyone together again.”

Members of NYCOS, NYCOS’s national choirs, national boys’ choir and national girls’ choir will now be able to hold rehearsals in outdoor locations in areas which are Level 2 or lower. These include Holmehill in Dunblane, Falcon Bowling Club in Edinburgh and other spots across the country.
