THE PAVILION Theatre has announced its well-anticipated reopening date.

After facing a "challenging" and "eventful" year, bosses have confirmed that the venue will reopen in 2021.

However, due to ongoing Covid restrictions, the theatre will not be able to open at full capacity.

Instead, up to 100 customers will be able to attend shows at one time with a two-meter social distancing rule in place.

Bosses said that announcement is a "step forward at long last".

A statement reads: "Our reopening update, all good news as it seems that we are taking steps forward at long last.

"What would be no good for anyone is to reopen quickly with large numbers only to be locked down and shows cancelled once again.

"Currently this will be reviewed on a three-week basis by the Scottish Government and at present, it looks like the next steps are increasing audience numbers up to 200 from June 7 and then 400 from June 28."

Although theatres can reopen later this month, bosses behind the city centre venue are choosing to open in mid-September.

The statement adds: "Financially, these audience restrictions do not work, and we really need to get the numbers up considerably prior to reopening and we also need time to confirm shows, actors, reinstate staff and advertise and promote the forthcoming shows.

"It is all going to take time and looking into the future it looks realistically early September would be the right time to reopen giving us the time required to open successfully."
