PROTESTERS obstructing a Home Office immigration enforcement van unfurled a banner calling out "Team UK".

Immigration officers and police clashed with Glasgow residents on Kenmure Street in Pollokshields.

Police officers surrounded a van where a family was understood to be behing held.

Chants of "let them go" and "we won't leave until the people are free" went out from the crowd opposing the UK Home Office's raid.

Amid the demonstration, a banner – seen in the video below – was unfurled from a window above the scene reading: "If this is Team UK, we reject it."

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who was sworn in as an MSP earlier today, hit out at the Home Office.

She tweeted: "As constituency MSP, I am deeply concerned by this action by the Home Office, especially today in the heart of a community celebrating Eid.

"My office is making urgent enquiries and stands ready to offer any necessary assistance to those detained."

Scottish Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf revealed that eight Home Office ministers had all failed to make themselves available to speak to him.

Glasgow MP Alison Thewliss was among those to condemn the raid.

She said: "This is absolutely awful, but heartened to see local residents in Pollokshields standing up for their neighbours and refusing to accept the brutality of the UK Home Office.

"I am taking this matter up with Ministers. Not in our name." 

Southside councillor Mhairi Hunter called on cops to leave the scene, citing fears around the spread of Covid. 

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 9.55 am this morning, Thursday, May 13, 2021, police were called to support colleagues at the UK Border Agency at an address in Kenmure Street, Pollokshields, Glasgow."
