COPS shut a motorway after alarm was raised for the safety of a person on a bridge over the road. 

The eastbound lane of the M8, near Gartcraig Road in Glasgow, was closed after cops were called to the scene. It has since reopened to traffic.

Officers remain on the scene in the city's East End.

A spokesman for the force said: "We were called at 6.35pm today after a report of concern for a person on a bridge over the M8 in Glasgow, near Gartcraig Road. 

"A closure is in place on the eastbound lane.

"Officers remain on the scene."
