A YELLOW Met Office “be aware” warning is in place this morning after the Highlands were hit with May snowfall.
Unseasonal weather has affected travel routes – with the soundbound carriageway of the A9 at Daviot blocked by a fallen tree for a time. Traffic Scotland has now cleared the tree, but said snow is continuing to affect driving conditions in the area.
The organisation is urging people to drive carefully this morning.

The Met Office warning covers parts of north, north-east, central and south-west Scotland and will be in place until 11am. Up to 6cm of snow is thought to have fallen in some parts of the country between 3.45am and now.
Seven gritters are on the A9 between Drumochter and Inverness in efforts to keep the road clear.
Meanwhile, according to the Met Office, Eskdalemuir was the coldest spot in Scotland last night – hitting a minimum temperature of -5.5C.
The May snowfall follows the frostiest April for at least 60 years, the organisation has said.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
