WE are delighted that the All Under One Banner (AUOB) static rally for independence held in Glasgow’s Freedom square yesterday was a great success.

Approximately 200 independence campaigners joined a physically distanced static rally on a beautiful, sunny Glasgow Saturday afternoon. This event was AUOB’s contribution to the Now Scotland National Day of Action for Independence.

Lynne MacDonald of AUOB said: “It was brilliant to see other pro-independence events happen across Scotland on this day of action at Aberdeen, Dundee, Kirkcaldy, Edinburgh and in the Borders.

“This made the Glasgow rally even more special.”

Today at Freedom square we platformed a broad range of speakers from across the Yes spectrum, who made the case for the people power required to end the Union and restore independence. We heard from a Scottish NHS worker who argued that independence is essential to protecting the NHS and Scotland’s future.

We also heard from Rory Anderson, a Unison activist, who said: “Trade unions need to be at the heart of the campaign in order to win indyref2 and Scotland’s independence.”

Young climate activists from the group Extinction Rebellion stressed the need to win independence so we can take the necessary urgent action required to stop climate change and get rid of Trident from Scotland’s waters.

The National:

The rally was addressed by Charlotte Ahmed from Now Scotland who outlined that we need to mobilise the mass movement for independence on the streets, in the workplaces and in our communities if we are to win our independence. She said we cannot rely on politicians or political parties to do what’s required.

Following the May 6 election results, AUOB will be announcing our plans to intensify and accelerate the campaign.

The fight for independence is on.
