FOR more than a thousand years the Normans and their descendants have ruled England and her colonies by divide and conquer, ten centuries which have seen many noble causes for liberation betrayed, but I never thought to see the betrayal of Scotland’s cause for independence by one of her greatest leaders.
At the very cusp of electoral success for our cause, Alex Salmond endangers it with his arrogant desire to re-establish himself as Scotland’s leader. The Comyns on the eve of Bannockburn come to mind. However noble he pretends he is, Alex Salmond has now exposed himself as a vain individual putting his pride before any residual loyalty to the nation he purports to love.

His actions throughout this entire episode have been entirely in accord with what might be expected from UK dirty tricks to divide and rule, and we must not let them do that. My anger and sense of betrayal are so keen that any doubt I had about my second vote is entirely removed. Both my votes must now be for the SNP led by Nicola Sturgeon, the most trustworthy politician in Europe today. We must rid ourselves of rule by the likes of de Pfeffel Johnson and their ilk.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
