BREXITEER and climate change critic Nigel Farage has announced a new role with a European green finance firm.

The Dutch Green Business Group (DGB) has signed the ex-Ukip, Brexit Party and Reform UK man as a member of its advisory board.

Farage, an ally of Donald Trump during his presidency, will "facilitate introductions to politicians and business leaders in the UK and around the world" in the new post, the group says: "Acting as a spokesperson for the business, Nigel will help in bringing DGB’s focus on promoting nature conservation utilising innovative carbon offsetting schemes to the attention of the public, investors, governments and other stakeholders."

It's the first independent commercial role the former MEP and ex-radio host has taken since leaving frontline politics and makes Farage the first member of the advisory board.

In 2013, Farage told fellow MEPs that "getting so worried about global warming" could be "one of the biggest and most stupid collective mistakes in history".

He also suggested that science was "not settled" on climage change and that measures taken to combat "what may or not be a problem are damaging our citizens".

Selwyn Duijvestijn, DGB chief executive, said: "Without doubt Nigel has been one of the most impactful politicians of the last 20 years, generating change and traction with the public and governments alike.

"We have not engaged Nigel for his political contacts. We have brought him in because of his unique abilities to communicate relevant ideas to a global audience."

Commenting, Farage said he took up the role because "I want something positive to happen": "All we ever hear is about raising taxes, banning things. DGB plan to plant tens and tens of millions of trees."

In a formal statement ,he said: "I am very excited to be joining DGB who are on a mission to save our forests, plant millions of trees and harness the burgeoning carbon offset market which is rapidly transforming the financial dynamics of the green arena.

"I know I can make a real difference to the speed and progress of this ambitious business which is delivering unique free market, nature-based solutions."
