The National:

TORY Health Secretary Matt Hancock caused controversy by posing with a large Saltire ahead of last night’s Six Nations match.

The Cabinet minister probably didn’t get the big Union-healing response he was hoping for, if looking through the Twitter replies is anything to go by.

Hancock wrote: “Come on Scotland!” and posted the image of him holding up a huge Scottish flag – with the Union flag in the background of course.

Scotland beat France in Paris for the first time in 22 years last night, so it’s no wonder Hancock was looking to bask in some of the glory.

Scots weren’t too pleased with the minister’s tweet, with one user declaring that the image itself was a “war crime”.

"How do you delete someone else's tweet?" asked another post.

"No flag left unshagged," joked Alasdair Muir.

"No tae be a flag shagger but get ur grubby paws off that," added @lauzmur.

"A photo that should end the Union forever ..." said another comment.

"Support for Scottish independence just increased 564%," wrote @InchorInfinity.

The post certainly makes a change from the usual Westminster tactic of sticking Union flags on everything.

Since the Tories want all Government buildings to fly the Union flag every day, you can expect the opposite, in fact …
