ACTION for Independence, a new pro-indy party fielding MSP hopefuls in every electoral region in May, have revealed the names of several candidates this morning.

AFI unveiled about half of its candidates, including Tommy Sheridan, former SNP MSP Dave Thompson, former MEP Hugh Kerr, blogger and former British ambassador Craig Murray, Forward As One organiser Martin Keatings, journalist Mark Hirst.

The party has argued that the Both Votes SNP strategy allows Unionist MSPs in by default, and positions itself as an alternative indy party on the list vote.

Critics have claimed that their SNP1/AFI2 tactic won’t work – but AFI insist that the “MaxTheYes” strategy would result in a “supermajority” in Holyrood if backed by enough Yes voters.

“Our call to the independence movement is vote SNP1/AFI 2 to elect a super-indy majority parliament. We have a formidable list of independence advocates who will fight under the banner of both votes independence calling on the indy family to put Scotland before party,” leader Thompson said earlier this month.

Below are the candidates who have been revealed so far and the regions they are running to represent. The remaining hopefuls will be unveiled tomorrow, AFI has said.
