The National:

FACING a battle to keep Scotland in the Union, the UK Government is scrambling to get Scots back on side.

They got off to a shaky start when they appointed as their leader a man who published an article calling Scots a “verminous race”.

More recently, the brains trust on Downing Street has decided that Scots can be won over if they plaster Union flags on absolutely everything.

From playparks to their own living room walls, Tory ministers are leaving nothing to chance.

The inspired plan hasn’t gone unnoticed, with eagle-eyed social media users managing to spot the giant Unionist displays.

But it’s not just viewers who have noticed the trend.

Rounding off an interview with Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick earlier, BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt said: “I think your flag is not up to standard-size government interview … measurements. It’s just a little bit small, but that’s your department really.”

The comment prompted hysterics in the BBC studio, with co-host Naga Munchetty noting there’s also a picture of the Queen on display in what she presumed to be the minister’s Westminster office.

She added “there’s always a flag” on show whenever Tory politicians are interviewed on the show.

Seems the UK Government might need to have a rethink about its masterplan to save the Union.
