IT’S only been going a few weeks, but Now Scotland, the new national membership organisation for Yes supporters, is ready to host its first assembly.

Demonstrating unity in action, Now Scotland has been keeping Scottish printers busy and as a result of their hard work, welcome packs for new members are now being delivered by posties across Scotland and around the world.

The group told The National: “Delighted members have been tweeting and Facebooking pictures of their welcome packs as they arrive. A short promo video showing the welcome packs being produced, featuring music by Dundee-based band Kashmir Crows, has already been viewed thousands of times online.”

The volunteers working for Now Scotland are also now adding the finishing touches to plans for their first assembly which will take place online on Sunday, March 21.

They told The National: “As a democratic organisation, Now Scotland is keen to provide members with a platform for discussion and debate on the issues which are of greatest interest to those members.

“Members have been asked for their views and suggestions and the most popular topics selected by members will form the basis of the agenda for the event.

“Assembly will discuss Now Scotland’s strategic campaigning priorities and will also provide the important space for the membership to have a voice and to express their thoughts.

“Anyone who supports independence and who would like to join the conversation should join Now Scotland and register for the first assembly at nowscotland.scot.”

One of the most fascinating aspects of Now Scotland’s online presence is the invitation on the website to “Imagine Scotland”.

The website explains: “We all have our reasons for wanting Scotland to be an independent Nation. We all know what we imagine an independent Scotland to look like.

“Now it’s time to share your vision with us! This can be one word, a few sentences or even an essay.

“Or you can get creative and use a picture or video to show us what Scottish independence means to you.

“Don’t forget to tag us and use #MyIndyScotland and #NowScotland when sharing on Social Media.”

Steering committee member and National columnist George Kerevan explained at its launch what the group is all about: “Now Scotland does not seek to replace or supplant anyone in the national movement. Instead we want to provide the missing part of the independence campaign jigsaw, a non-party forum, run by and for grassroots activists, that can debate strategy and tactics for our movement. A common space to bring activists together regardless of party (or non-party) affiliation.”
