JUST as the SNP has seen a membership boost this week, The National has seen a flurry of new subscribers sign up over the last couple of days.
With the latest polls on Scottish independence showing a majority of voters are still backing Yes, and recent surveys showing the issue is the big one helping people decide who to back at the May election, it’s clear the next few months are crucial to the cause.
The SNP have pledged to hold a referendum in the early part of the next parliament if they secure a majority at the Holyrood election.
We’d like to welcome all of our new subscribers on board as we head towards the most important election in Scotland’s history. And if you’re not already subscribed, now is the time to join us and win independence.
Callum Baird, the editor of The National, wanted to welcome all the new subs.
“Thank you for giving your support to Scotland’s only daily independence-supporting newspaper,” he commented. “There really never has been a more important time to get the word out about Scottish independence.
“With the Tories enjoying a 13-point lead in the UK polls, it’s more clear than ever that now is the time for Scotland to leave the unequal Union.
“We can’t wait to share all the exciting projects we have planned up until the election and indyref2 with you – and of course many of these will be exclusive perks for our subscribers.”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
