Dave Allen Live: On Life (BBC2, 10pm)
IT’S 50 years since the series Dave Allen At Large made its debut on the BBC. It ran for the next eight years and although it wasn’t his first TV show, it’s what Allen is perhaps now best remembered for, and it helped seal his position at the forefront of British comedy.
He may have been born in Dublin, but Allen enjoyed his biggest successes on this side of the Irish Sea.
Sadly he passed away suddenly in 2005, but thanks to some technical wizardry, the funnyman can be seen presenting his favourite monologues from across his career.
Sitting on his trademark stool, sipping whisky, Allen reflects on the idiocies of life, offering his occasionally controversial views on everything from the ageing process to the invasive tendencies of the modern telephone.
Man in Room 301 (BBC4, 9pm)
THE Finnish psychological drama continues with a double bill. Seppo travels to Greece, where Risto questions Nina about how well she knows Leo.
In 2007, a hungover Seppo falls asleep, not realising that Tommi has wandered off.
Back in 2019, Anna and Tytti attend a party meeting Ellu for the first time and Risto receives another menacing text message. Then, in the second part, Olivia is frantic with worry when neither Anna nor Tytti return home from Sonia’s party. In Greece, Kalle sneaks out of the hotel room to go climbing with Leo.
Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (STV, 7pm)
TOM Jones will be appearing later in the evening in The Voice UK, but he pops up first in an End of the Show Show with a difference. He isn’t the only famous face on view either. Davina McCall is the latest victim of Get Out of Me Ear, while actor and comedian Rob Delaney is this week’s Star Guest Announcer.
If that’s not enough to get you interested, perhaps Stephen Mulhern’s latest Ant v Dec challenge and a chance to Win the Ads will be. Whatever happens, we’re promised a heap of fun.
The Voice UK (STV, 8.30pm)
WE’VE been thrilled by the blind auditions and impressed by the vocal gymnastics displayed by the wannabe superstars in the battle rounds, which means just one thing – the semi-final is here at last.
A dozen of the acts who have made it through so far take to the stage once again, desperate to make it to the grand finale, where they will be within touching distance of landing a coveted recording contract. Before they can do that, however, they must impress coaches will.i.am, Tom Jones, Olly Murs and Anne-Marie one more time.
