GLASGOW’S Sikh Food Bank has received a donation of PPE from an IT and business consulting services firm to help them continue providing support and companionship to families during the coronavirus lockdown.

The donation from CGI Scotland includes plastic face visors, disposable gloves and hand sanitiser.

It will allow the food bank’s 50-strong team of volunteers, led by Charandeep Singh, to carry on their work providing food to those in need.

This has included delivering more than 100,000 meals to families across the city, as well as in Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Lindsay McGranaghan, vice president and business unit lead Scotland at CGI, said: “Everyone at CGI Scotland has been full of admiration for the dedication of Charandeep Singh, for which he received a Pride of Scotland award, and all the volunteers of the Sikh Food Bank.

“They have been real heroes, coming to the aid of thousands of people and families not only in Glasgow but across the central belt of Scotland. We very much hope that this donation of PPE allows them to continue their amazing work safely and securely.”

Singh added: “Everyone at the Sikh Food Bank is delighted and very appreciative of this donation from CGI, which will help protect us as we continue to deliver much-needed food and support to those in desperate need during lockdown.

“CGI is a shining example of businesses stepping up to play their part in helping communities across Scotland through this crisis.”
