A TOTAL of 9347 people have died in Scotland with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, according to the National Records of Scotland (NRS).
The figures show 290 deaths relating to Covid-19 were registered between February 15 and 21, down 35 on the previous week.
Of these, the majority happened in hospital at 235, with 34 in care homes and 20 at home or in a non-institutional setting and one in another institution.
The statistics are published weekly and cover all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
They differ from the lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths announced daily by the Scottish Government because the NRS figures include suspected or probable cases of Covid-19.
Speaking at today's daily coronavirus briefing, Nicola Sturgeon revealed that there had been 798 new positive cases since yesterday, representing 3.9% of all tests carried out.
That brings the overall number of confirmed cases to 199,637.
The First Minister added that 1018 people are currently in hospital, 58 fewer than yesterday, and 93 people are in intensive care, which is the same as yesterday.
There have also been an additional 47 deaths since yesterday.
That brings the total number of deaths of people who had tested positive for Covid in the previous 28 days to 7053.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
