ACTION for Independence (AFI), which aims to “max the Yes vote” on the regional list at the Holyrood election, has welcomed approval of its registration by the Electoral Commission.

The ruling means that AFI are now free to stand as a political party on the regional list at the Holyrood vote in May, in what the party is calling “the independence elections”.

The party wants all Yes voters to vote SNP with their first constituency vote and then vote AFI with their second regional list vote.

Dave Thompson, interim leader of AFI and a former SNP MSP of nine years, said: “We are delighted that we can now get on with uniting our Yes Family behind AFI on the regional lists to ensure we get a supermajority in May’s elections.

“It is also gratifying that the Electoral Commission have accepted our dynamic new name of Action for Independence.”
