ANOTHER people 88 have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19, the First Minister has announced.

A further 978 cases were also recorded in the past 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 5.1%.

The deaths, among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measurement to 6269.

There are 1871 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19, down by 63 in 24 hours.

Of those, the number of patients in intensive care is 128.

The National Records of Scotland figures released today, which note the number of people who have died where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate, show that 8347 Scots have died under this measure.

The Scottish Government also confirmed that 649,262 Scots have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, an increase of 38,484 from the day before.

It's the highest number of daily jags yet in Scotland, and 59% up on the same day last week.

Nicola Sturgeon said that 98% of residents in older people's care homes and at least 87% of over-80s living in the community have had the first dose of the jag.
