LIVE on Hopin this month will be the biggest open debate yet held about the controversial Growth Commission report.

Entitled Moving Beyond the Growth Commission, the event will take place online on February 25, from 3pm to 7pm with a repeat being shown on February 27, from 1pm to 5pm.

Brought to you by Totally Gallus Events and Independence Live, all funds raised will further the multi-media campaign for Scottish independence.

Entry for the low-waged and unwaged is free, with the standard entry at £5, entry plus donation at £10, and super donation plus entry at £20.

Speakers will include Kairin van Sweedin, Tim Rideout, Richard Murphy, and Craig Dalziel.

The format is as follows: Session one: “Why We Need To Talk About The Growth Commission” – A Phantom Power Exclusive film.

Session two: An introduction to the Sustainable Growth Commission (Panel Session).

Session three: Raising the potential & performance of the Scottish Economy.

Session four: The Fiscal Framework.

Session five: Currency Monetary Framework.

There will be the chance to network with others, and facilitated breakout sessions to speak to other attendees.

We don’t quite understand how the Campfire Sessions with speakers will work but we’re assured they will be entertaining and informative – and no actual fires.

Independence Live will also provide access to resources and further learning for those who wish them.

The group told The National: “This major virtual event will, for the first time, bring together a wide range of voices to discuss the full implications of an independent Scotland adopting the approach outlined in the Sustainable Growth Commission report.

“The SNP published the Sustainable Growth Commission’s report in May 2018.

“It is time to have a serious and open debate about the impacts of this model for an independent Scotland.”

From 7.30pm on February 24, Yes Dunbar will host an online meeting via Zoom on the subject of “What does a Greener, Resilient Scotland look like and how do we build it?”

Yes Dunbar said: “For our next speaker meeting, we will focus on the environmental choices that will be possible in an independent Scotland.

“Laura Moodie is a community activist, smallholder, mum of four and is the co-ordinator of the Midsteeple Quarter – an ambitious project to buy and redevelop the High Street of Dumfries by and for the community.”
