NICOLA Sturgeon has confirmed a further 82 coronavirus deaths have been registered in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Speaking ahead of FMQs in the Scottish Parliament, the First Minister said the total number of deaths under the Scottish Government measurement – where a patient dies within 28 days of a positive test – stands at 5970.

The figures differ from those published by the National Records of Scotland, which records all deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

There are 1938 people in hospital with the virus, a decrease of 33 on the previous day. There are 142 people in intensive care, a decrease of three.

Due to a hold up in processing there was no figure for total vaccinations today, however the First Minister told MSPs around 60% of over-80s have had their first dose and everyone in this group should receive their jag by the end of the first week of February.
