MORE than 1200 people signed the Yes Challenge pledge on the first day of its launch yesterday.

The National and Believe in Scotland set up the initiative asking people to sign up and nominate someone who can be persuaded over to the Yes cause. In return, we’ll give nominees a 12-week free subscription to the newspaper to help bring them around.

The National editor Callum Baird was thrilled with the response on the first day.

“It’s great that more than 1200 people pledged to help drive support for independence even higher on the very first day of the launch,” he commented.

“The Yes Challenge is going to be the biggest independence campaign since 2014. We’ve now seen 20 consecutive polls showing majority support for indy, and with the Holyrood election coming up there’s never been a more crucial time to get through to the undecided voters in our lives.

“We can’t wait to keep this momentum going and win indyref2.”
