ANOTHER 87 people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19.

A further 1049 cases were also recorded in the past 24 hours, according to the latest figures.

The death toll under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is now 5796.

Scottish Government statistics show the daily test positivity rate is 9%, up slightly from 8.6% on the previous day when 752 new cases were recorded.

A total of 174,002 people have tested positive in Scotland since the start of the pandemic, up from 172,953 on Monday.

There are 2010 people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19, down six in 24 hours.

Of these patients, 149 are in intensive care – a decrease of two.

Meanwhile, Public Health Scotland announced 437,900 people in the country had received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine by Tuesday, an increase of 22,498 from the previous day.

It added that 6060 people have received the second dose, a rise of 522.
