ANOTHER 71 people have died in Scotland after contracting Covid-19.

The figures, recorded over the past 24 hours among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days, bring the total under that measurement to 5376.

A further 1165 positive coronavirus tests were also recorded, Scottish Government figures show.

It means 164,927 people have now tested positive in Scotland.

The daily test positivity rate is 11.1%, down from 12.3% 24 hours previously.

Of the new cases, 354 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 178 in Lanarkshire, and 142 in Lothian.

There are 1989 people in hospital with confirmed Covid-19, up 30 in 24 hours.

Of these patients, 150 are in intensive care, an increase of four.

Meanwhile, Public Health Scotland announced 284,582 people had received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine by 8.30am, an increase of 19,591 from the previous day.

It added that 3886 people have received the second dose, a rise of 188.
