Nicola Sturgeon will tomorrow announce whether lockdown will be extended beyond the end of January and if schools should remain closed to most pupils.

Speaking at the daily media briefing on the pandemic she said the Scottish Cabinet would review the current restrictions when it meets tomorrow, with the First Minister then giving a statement to Holyrood later in the day.

"We will look at the latest data and come to a view on where we are and whether we need to extend the lockdown restrictions to further suppress the virus," she said.

Later she was asked about whether schools would remain closed during February to most pupils with remote learning in place for students.

"As soon as we have taken a decision, I will set that out to Parliament. I think that is the best and fairest way of proceeding," she responded.

"I would say we want to get schools back as quickly as we possibly can, it is not in the interests of kids to be out of school for any longer than is absolutely necessary but community transmission has always been a key factor in these decisions."

During the briefing said the Scottish Government was also considering whether hotels could be used for people coming to the country from outside the UK who are required to self-isolate on arrival.

The First Minister also said £5 million of Scottish Government cash was being used to establish an NHS medicines delivery service.

This will be available to about 1.5 million people, Ms Sturgeon said, including those who had been shielding previously.

It will be operating by the end of this month, and available until "at least" the end of March - although this date will be kept under review.

"This will reduce the need for some people to go outside for their medicines at a time when transmission rates are still high," the First Minister said.

Giving an update on the number of cases, she said1,429 positive coronavirus tests were recorded in the past 24 hours.

She said no deaths have been recorded, meaning the death toll under this measure - of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - stands at 5,305.

She added that !63,762 people have now tested positive in Scotland, up from 162,333 the previous day.

The daily test positivity rate is 12.3%, up from 9.5% on yesterday.

Of the new cases, 451 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 244 in Lanarkshire, and 178 in Lothian.

There are 1,959 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus, up 41 in 24 hours.
Of these patients, 146 are in intensive care, down one.

She also announced that 264,991 people across Scotland had now received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine.
