TRIBUTES on social media have been pouring in for Gordon Gray, an SNP activist who lost his life to Covid-19.

Chris Stephens, the SNP MP for Glasgow South West, led the tributes online, saying he was "heartbroken" to have learned the news.

Stephens wrote: "Heartbroken to learn we have lost @theSNP and @unison_glasgow activist Gordon Gray this morning, he fought Covid valiantly.

"For everything you have done for the [Trade Union] movement, the party and for me personally, will never be forgotten. Rest in Power Comrade."

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said it was "very sad news indeed" to have lost a "stalwart of Team Pollok SNP".

Yousaf added: "Gutted to hear of Gordon's passing. He lived for his family and grandchildren especially, my thoughts with his family and friends."

Roza Salih, one of the founding members of the Glasgow Girls, tweeted: "Gordon you were a kindhearted comrade and you will be missed very much."

The SNP Socialists group added: "A terrible loss to the trade union movement, the left, the SNP, the radical independence cause and so much more."

Further tributes from other activists expressed their condolences, with one sharing a group photo and writing: "The man in the middle at the back of this pic was called Gordon Gray and he died of Covid-19 today.

"Gordon was a member of our Pollok SNP branch & he campaigned hard for an independent Scotland. He was a true patriot. Please remember him today.

"R.I.P Gordon."

One user added: "You can even see his yellow Doc Martens in this. Still can’t believe it."
