A FURTHER 78 coronavirus deaths have been registered in Scotland over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths under the Scottish Government’s measurement to 5307.

These numbers reflect deaths where a person has died within 28 days of a positive test, differing from the National Records of Scotland which records all deaths where the virus is mentioned on the death certificate.

Scotland has also reported 1753 new Covid-19 cases, accounting for 8.4% of tests carried out.

There are 1863 people in hospital with the virus, an increase of three on the previous day.

A total of 224,840 people have now received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and 3331 people have received their second dose.

The update comes after new restrictions on takeaway food and drink and click and collect services came into effect across mainland Scotland today.

Today mass vaccination is also getting underway at Scotland’s field hospital, the NHS Louisa Jordan, in Glasgow.

Some 5000 health and social care staff will receive their jag today with staff delivering 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine per hour.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has praised the efforts of hospital workers, commenting: "My thanks to vaccinators [NHS Louisa Jordan] and across the country working hard to make the light at the end of the tunnel that bit brighter - one jag at a time."
