The National:

OUT with the old and in with the new.

As we near the end of 2020, the Scottish Tories will be looking back on a year in which they tried to rebrand.

Jackson Carlaw was ousted in July, to be replaced with the least popular double act since humans and Covid-19.

Of course Douglas Ross is no stranger to unpopularity, having served for years in the only job which can compare to Scottish Tory leader in the popularity stakes – a linesman in the Scottish top flight.

He and Holyrood chief Ruth Davidson have tried to give the party a new look in a desperate bid to prevent an SNP landslide in May.

It doesn’t seem to have paid off, with Nicola Sturgeon’s party more popular than ever. For some reason, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party can’t shake off the bad smell from their southern bosses.

It has instead fallen to a mysterious prankster to give the Scottish Tories a new look, with a subtle yet effective alteration at the party’s headquarters in Edinburgh.

Hinting at Dominic Cummings’ notorious Covid rules breach, the building has been dubbed “Barnard castle Tourist Board”.

Bravo.
