A FURTHER 39 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded in Scotland, the First Minister has said.
Speaking at the Scottish Government’s coronavirus briefing, Nicola Sturgeon said the number of people who have died after testing positive for the virus in the previous 28 days now stands at 3989.
These figures differ from those published by the National Records of Scotland, which records all deaths where the virus is seen as a suspected or contributory factor.

The NRS published its latest data today showing the total under that measurement is now 5968.
The First Minister also said there were 897 new cases recorded across Scotland over the last 24 hours. That accounts for 4.6% of tests carried out.
Of the new cases there were 225 cases in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 150 in Lothian and 147 in Lanarkshire. The remaining cases were spread across the eight other mainland health board areas.
There were also 972 people in hospital, down 11 on the previous day, and 50 people in intensive care, a decrease of seven.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
