The National:

SCOTTISH football fans have been out in the cold all season – with no spectators allowed into games due to coronavirus restrictions.

So that’s why The Jouker was a little perplexed to see a certain Rangers-supporting Tory council leader posting regular snaps from inside Ibrox on his social media.

You might remember this councillor – Andrew Polson of East Dunbartonshire – from our front-page story on Saturday – where he was caught casting doubt on vaccine “side effects” saying he wouldn’t been taking it for a while. “I wouldn’t consider taking it (the vaccine) until I see the side effects over three or four years (they normally allow five to 10 years to see how they pan out),” Polson posted in a Facebook thread.”

The Scottish Tories told us he definitely wasn’t an anti-vaxxer.

That may be the case, but he is definitely getting to watch the football. It turns out he has been getting access to Ibrox on match days to report on his favourite team for Christian community radio station Revival FM. This is a radio station which, by the way, he happens to own.

On October 4, he posted a picture of Douglas Ross, who was a linesman at the game. “Great to be with the boss at Ibrox today running the line,” he wrote. “Doing a fantastic job and like yesterday staying onside!”

On October 25, he posted another picture from the stadium. “A chance for Rangers to extend their lead at the top of the table at a cold blustery, empty Ibrox,” he said. “Loving the new huge press passes with pic … there can be no doubt who should and shouldn’t be here!”

Now, The Jouker had a quick listen over the weekend while Rangers were playing Ross County, and at no point during the game was coverage interrupted to give an update. There’s also no mention of Rangers at all on the station’s website. There seem to be no match reports. There’s a “Friday Night Football Show” but Councillor Polson isn’t involved. He hosts a weekly drive-time show. The National also understands that Revival FM doesn’t send anyone to watch Celtic. So what “reporting” is Councillor Polson doing at Ibrox?

We put it to Polson and he told us: “Any matches that I attend I provide the written summary that is available for use across all shows on the day after the match including any recorded interviews with management and players. These are also available to be used by other community radio stations if desired.”

There we are, he’s doing it for the people. We’ll let our readers make up their own minds...
