AS even some of the Republican Party openly speculate on the mental state of their president, Donald Trump’s increasingly desperate attempts to overturn his election defeat took another hammer blow when a court packed with conservative judges threw out his latest lawsuit.

The Supreme Court of the state of Wisconsin ruled that it would refuse to hear the outgoing president’s case that 221,000 ballots in Wisconsin’s two biggest Democratic counties should be disallowed after allegations – for which there is no evidence – that they were administered incorrectly.

There had already been a recount after which it was declared that Presdient-elect Joe Biden won by 20,700 votes. The Trump team’s claims of electoral fiddles were earlier rejected by election officials. With the electoral college meeting to cast its votes on December 14, Trump argued there wasn’t enough time to go through the normal legal procedures and asked the Supreme Court to hear the case.

Trump’s lawyers said in a statement: “In this case, there is not enough time to follow the normal judicial procedure without this Court asserting its original jurisdiction authority immediately.”

With the Wisconsin Supreme Court seen as conservative-controlled, the opinion of Judge Brian Hagedorn proved crucial.

“We do well as a judicial body to abide by time-tested judicial norms, even – and maybe especially – in high profile cases,” Hagedorn wrote.

State Attorneys rebuked Trump in their pleadings: “President Trump seeks nothing less than to overturn the will of nearly 3.3 million Wisconsin voters. It is a shocking and outrageous assault on our democracy. ... He is simply trying to seize Wisconsin´s electoral votes, even though he lost the statewide election.”

Trump’s announcement that he will speak at a major rally in Georgia on Saturday in support for two Republican senators trying to keep their seats has caused consternation – particularly among Republicans. Trump tweeted: “Will be going to Georgia for a big Trump Rally in support of our two great Republican Senators, David [Perdue] and Kelly [Loeffler]. They are fantastic people who love their Country and love their State. We must work hard and be sure they win. #USA.”

If the two senators are defeated by their Democratic Party opponents, the Republicans will lose control of the Senate. Normally Trump support would be helpful to the Republican Party’s candidates. However, this is not the case after the continuing attitude of Trump to the election process. Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan – a Republican – said: “It is a massive, unsubstantiated wave of misinformation.”
