The National:

CHRISTMAS has come early this year!

If you’re a fan of the Scottish Tories exposing their own hypocrisy, that is.

For it’s not Santa’s presents that have been delivered to Scottish homes, but rather Douglas Ross’s latest campaign leaflets.

The flyers may have been updated to include pictures of Douglas Ross in a hardhat, yet recipients couldn’t help but notice some familiar themes cropping up.

Give a Scottish Conservative a platform and they’re almost certain to tell anyone who’ll listen that the SNP are obsessed by independence.

Earlier this week, the party bravely exposed the fact that the Scottish National Party talk a fair bit about independence. How appalling.

It even went as far as to count the mentions of independence in Nicola Sturgeon’s conference speech.

Ross took things a stage further on the BBC’s coverage of the First Minister’s coronavirus briefing the following day, ignoring a question about the pandemic to rant at the SNP.

Judging by the party’s latest flyer, it’s probably about time it had a look in the mirror – because the Scottish Tories have a serious independence problem.

On just one side of the leaflet, independence or a second referendum are mention TEN times – more than the total number of Scottish Conservative MPs, for context.

“We need to focus 100% on the recovery from Covid,” the flyer rages, while constantly talking about independence.

The sad truth is, if they didn’t have independence to rail against, the Scottish Tories wouldn’t have anything at all.
