FOR those objecting to the £500 bonus for NHS staff as nothing but a move to divide and conquer, or a political ploy to win support for the SNP, I have one question.

Would you be raising the same objections if the announcement had been made by Boris Johnson or Richard Leonard, for example?

For those complaining that supermarket staff, bin men and many others have been just as important during the pandemic but are not included in the bonus, I have another question.

How many of these other admittedly essential workers have died of the virus caught in the course of their duties, compared with the number of doctors and nurses?

However many people have been essential to getting us through this crisis, few occupations have resulted in the same level of fatalities as the NHS.
