A HISTORIC Scottish castle has awarded a £1 million grant from the Scottish Government and EU for an ambitious native woodland creation scheme.

The project at Dunvegan Castle & Gardens on Skye has been in development for a year and a half.

It is being overseen by Scottish Woodlands Ltd, which will plant the scheme behalf of the MacLeod Estate by the end of 2021.

It is the first phase of the MacLeod Estate’s evolving rewilding strategy, which estate director Hugh MacLeod has been working on for the last few years.

A total of 372,000 trees will be planted.
